Take the #TastesAndTales challenge for #Veganuary

The start of a new year is when many of us decide to make some changes. Drink less, exercise more or .... try some vegan meals!

The annual #Veganuary pledge has inspired half a million people to try eating plant-based meals in January. We are joining in and inviting you to take the #TastesAndTales challenge by trying some of the vegan meals from our Tastes and Tales recipe book.

The Challenge

We have selected 8 dishes from the recipe book for you to try out so you will love this challenge:

  • Choose and prepare one of the recipes
  • Enjoy it!
  • Post a photo to your favourite social media platform with the #TastesAndTales hashtag
  • Challenge two friends to do the same and then ask them to challenge two of their friends...

The Recipes

Below we have 8 great recipes to choose from. These are all inspired by displaced people from around the world who are now trying to rebuild their lives in Europe. For them it is a taste of home, for you a taste of something unique.

Warm and Spicy Lentil Soup Comfort food gives you that lovely warm feeling whatever the weather

Broad Bean Hummus  A easy to make starter or side dish that is heavenly

Sweet Potato, Carrot, Lentil and Spinach Curry  A tasty, warming dish perfect for a cold night

Spicy African Burger  OK, for it to be vegan you need to leave out the egg yolk and the mayonnaise but this is one tasty burger

Tabbouleh  Delicious as a side dish, a starter or just on its own

Mejadra - simple ingredients combine with spices to make this a magical dish

Poached Apricots - perfect Middle Eastern sweetness (swap the honey for syrup)

Glazed Pineapple Slices - so sweet, so delicious!

The Tastes and Tales recipe book

Tastes and Tales From a Distant Homeland was produced by two of our amazing Refugee Support volunteers.

This beautifully designed book has a wide range of delicious vegan, vegetarian, meat and fish recipes from the homelands of refugees we have helped together with their personal stories.

If you like what you taste and would like more recipes then you can buy the book from the RefuMade online shop.
